Ford C-Max Energi to Start at $33,745 Before Tax Credits

Federal Credit Brings Price Below $30,000

Jul 22, 2012
Beating a competitor by undercutting their prices is an age-old tradition, but is it truly undercutting if that's dependent on outside factors? Ford certainly thinks so. The automaker is claiming that its upcoming 2013 C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid, which it just announced will start at $33,745 will undercut the $32,760 Toyota Prius Plug-In thanks to its eligibility for a more generous $3750 federal tax credit that drops the price to $29,995. However, as is the case with the Chevrolet Volt, owners don't get the full advantage of the tax credit until they file for the year in which the vehicle was purchased.
In addition to the federal tax credit, Ford believes that the C-Max Energi will qualify for a tax credit worth up to $1500 from the state of California.
