Hino Introduces New Hybrid-Diesel Cabover Truck
Staged Rollout to Begin in California
Toyota has long been regarded as a leader in hybrid technology for cars, but the Japanese giant is now starting to migrate the technology to the commercial truck sector though its Hino truck division with the announcement of a hybrid version of its new 195-series cabover medium-duty truck. The automaker says that the hybrid truck offers 30-percent better fuel economy over the diesel-powered 195-series.
Both models feature Hino's 5.0-liter turbodiesel I4 that produces 210 hp and 440 lb-ft. The standard 195-series trucks will arrive in Hino showrooms nationwide in August. The diesel-hybrid models will initially launch in California in September, with a nationwide rollout planned to take place in early calendar 2013, as more units become available.
The 195 series is available in regular or crew cab configurations. No pricing information on the conventional or hybrid 195 models was released.
