NHTSA Opens Investigation into 2013 Infiniti JX for Braking Issues
IBA System Reported to Bring Vehicle to Abrupt Stop
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Office of Defects Investigation has opened an investigation into the 2013 Infiniti JX35's intelligent brake assist system, having received two complaints of the system inappropriately applying emergency braking when unwarranted.
The complaints allege multiple incidents in the same locations and road conditions. No injuries or deaths have been reported, but the complainants claim that, when the sudden brake lockup occurs, it locks the seatbelts as well.
Kyle Bazemore, senior manager of Infiniti U.S. Communications, responded to our inquiry by phone saying the company is aware of the investigation, and doesn't believe it's a safety defect per se, but is working with NHTSA to investigate and resolve the problem.
