General Motors, Lexus SUVs Dominate IntelliChoice's 2013 Best Bets
Two Companies Take 10 out of 15 Spots on List
IntelliChoice has released its 2013 Best Bets for overall value in advance of its annual Best Overall Value of the Year awards. The list is based on the model's past performance and projected maintenance, fuel, and depreciation relative to peers in its class. Toyota and General Motors collectively took 10 out of the 15 spots, with Lexus taking four spots, all with SUV or crossover models, and GM taking five spots, four of those also being SUVs.
The four Lexus models were the GX 460, LX 570, RX 350 and RX 450h and the lone Toyota-branded vehicle was Land Cruiser. The winning GM models were the Chevrolet Avalanche and Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL 1500, as well as the Buick LaCrosse eAssist.
IntelliChoice uses data from auto manufacturers, insurance companies, government, and other third-party sources to estimate the ownership costs over a five-year period. The same methodology is also used by IntelliChoice to determine its Best Overall Value of the Year, Smart Choice, and Motorist Choice awards. Estimates are re-evaluated at the end of the year when more than 1800 makes, models and trims are analyzed to determine the BOVY winners.
