Mexico will be the fourth country to have OnStar available in Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC cars. The system will offer all the usual services such as automatic crash response, turn-by-turn navigation, stolen vehicle assistance, vehicle diagnostics, hands-free calling, and roadside assistance. While OnStar won't be the only telematics system offered in Mexico, human interaction is what OnStar reps believe it will set it apart.
Originally launched in 1996, GM's OnStar services have 5.5 million subscribers in the U.S. In Canada, OnStar was first made available in 1998 and there are now 428,000 subscribers. The Chinese market Initially exposed to OnStar in 2009, China now has 450,000 subscribers.
