Drag Racer Antron Brown Builds "Dragquoia" in Toyota Dream Build Challenge
Other Contestants Building Tundra, Camry, Prius to be Revealed at SEMA
When you generally think of high-performance vehicles, full-size SUVs aren't generally the first type that come to mind. But that's not stopping NHRA Top Fuel driver Antron Brown from selecting a Toyota Sequoia to be his vehicle for the Toyota Dream Build Challenge Contest.
If you think a Sequoia is an unusual choice for a performance vehicle build-off competition, consider the other vehicles in the contest, which include a Prius, Camry, and Tundra. All four are being built under the guidance of celebrity racers, with Brown building the aforementioned Sequoia, Kyle Busch building a Camry, Clint Bowyer building a Prius, and NHRA funny car driver Alexis DeJoria building a Tundra.
Brown's team wasted no time in stripping the Sequoia down to its bare frame and shell, cutting the frame, and cutting the sheetmetal to make room for massive 33-inch drag slicks. Brown has dubbed his project the Dragquoia and vows to make it "fast, from my house to the grocery store."
You can follow the 28-video web series documenting the buildups of each of the drivers' vehicles on Toyota Racing Dream Build YouTube channel, the contest's Facebook page, or Twitter feed. Voting for the vehicles will begin on October 20, and run for 10 days, culminating in the announcement of the winner at the 2012 SEMA show in Las Vegas on October 30; the winning team will receive a check for $50,000 for the charity of their choice. Fans will be able to vote for their favorite team once a day on Facebook, and can enter to win prizes including the grand prize of a Toyota Racing Dream Trip.
