GM Halts Sale of Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain, Cadillac SRX on OnStar Glitch

Up to 60,000 Vehicles Affected, Some Fixed Remotely

General Motors is suspending sales on several of its most popular models due to a glitch in OnStar software that prevents an automated call to the call center in the event of a collision that doesn't trigger an airbag deployment, such as a rear-end collision, according to Automotive News.

Among the models affected are the popular Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain, and Cadillac SRX crossovers, as well as the Chevrolet Cruze, and Volt, Cadillac XTS and ATS, and Buick Verano. The system operates normally in crashes in which the front airbags deploy, and manually pressing the OnStar button will still connect to a call-center operator.
OnStar has already pushed out an over-the-air fix that has addressed the issue on some vehicles, but is recommending dealers perform a manual on-site update on vehicles where the OTA update did not fix the problem.

Owners of affected vehicles were notified of the issue in late August. GM expects all affected vehicles to be fixed by late September.
