Porsche Unveils 2013 V-8-Powered Cayenne Diesel S
High-Performance V-8 Diesel Cranks Out 627 lb-ft, Delivers 28 mpg
The 2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel's 3.0-liter V-6 is good for 406 lb-ft of torque. Yet, it appears that Porsche doesn't think that's quite enough because the German automaker just unveiled the Cayenne Diesel S, which is powered by a 4.2-liter turbodiesel V-8 good for 382 hp and an eye-watering 627 lb-ft of torque. Not only is that 201 lb-ft more twisting force than the regular Cayenne Diesel, it's 111 lb-ft more than is found in the lightning-quick Cayenne Turbo.
Like the rest of the Cayenne range, the Cayenne Diesel S is fitted with Porsche's 8-speed automatic gearbox, which sends power to all four wheels. Porsche claims that it can hit 62 mph in 5.7 second, decidedly faster than Cayenne Diesel's estimate of 7.2 second to 60 mph. Despite the extra power, the Cayenne Diesel S is expected to return around 28 mpg based on the New European Driving Cycle, whichc consists of four urban driving cycles and one highway driving cycle.
American buyers are unlikely to be offered the chance to trade a suitcase full of dollars in exchange for a Cayenne Diesl S. Europeans, however, can get their hands on one starting in January of 2013 for the equivalent of about $94,000.
