Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line Returns for 2013 - In Europe
Euro Model Offers Choice of One Gas, Two Diesel Engines
Compact SUVs aren't just hot in the U.S. -- they're popular all over the world. In Europe, the Volkswagen Tiguan compact SUV is the fourth-best-selling Volkswagen model after the Golf, Polo, and Passat, accounting for 20 percent of the brand's total sales. VW is expecting that share to move even higher with the 2013 Tiguan R-Line.
Like the other R-Line models, the changes are primarily cosmetic, not to be confused with models such as the Golf R, which has a unique all-wheel-drive drivetrain and higher-powered turbocharged engine. The Tiguan R-Line is based on the mid-range SE model, adding bi-xenon headlights, 18-inch Mallory alloy wheels, black wheel well trim, unique front and rear R design bumpers, and the R-Line logo on the grille, front door sills, headrests, and steering wheel.
The Tiguan R-Line is available with three 2.0-liter engines in Europe: one gas and two diesel. The first is VW's familiar 2.0-liter, direct-injected turbocharged gasoline four cylinder producing 210 hp. Two TDI versions are available: a 140-hp version, and a high-output version producing 170 hp.
Prices for the Tiguan R-Line start at the equivalent of $45,065 in the U.K. for the 140 hp TDI model. The Tiguan R-Line will go on sale in January 2013.
