Recall: 2009-2010 Ram 1500, Dodge Dakota Rear Axle Pinion Nut
Loose Nut Could Result in Axle Seizure, Loss of Control
A total of 44,300 2009-2010 Ram 1500 and Dakota trucks are being recalled by Chrysler for an improperly installed rear axle pinion nut. The nuts were installed without the proper amount of adhesive. Consequently, the nuts can loosen, and cause the rear axle to lock up, causing a loss of vehicle control.
The Problem: The rear axle pinion nut on certain 2009-2010 Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota pickups could come loose from lack of adequate adhesive. If the nut loosens, it could cause the rear axle to lock up and cause a loss of vehicle control.
The Fix: Chrysler will notify affected owners, and replace the nut and install a pinion nut retainer free of charge. The recall campaign is expected to begin in November 2012. Owners can call Chrysler customer service at 800-247-9753, or NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236.
Number of Vehicles Affected: 44,300 Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota pickups built from July 1, 2009 through November 30, 2009.
