Chevrolet Donates 50 Pickups and Vans for Hurricane Sandy Recovery
Vehicles Donated to American Red Cross To Assist Disaster Relief
Chevrolet donated 50 Silverado trucks and Express cargo vans to the American Red Cross to assist with disaster recovery efforts in the hardest-hit areas. The vehicles were pulled from existing dealer inventory near the relief site areas. In addition to the vehicle donation, each of the donated vehicles will have 300 OnStar hands-free calling minutes and three months of OnStar's directions and connections plan which includes turn-by-turn navigation.
The GM foundation also earlier donated $250,000 to the Red Cross disaster recovery efforts. Hurricane Sandy was one of the worst storms the Northeast has seen this century, with the New York Stock Exchange closing for a weather-related incident for the first time in more than 100 years, the last time being in 1888 for a blizzard. The storm has also caused the closure of the New York subway system, and hundreds of thousands of businesses and households remain without power. Damage estimates from Sandy are currently in the range of $20 billion.
