Ford F-150 Raptor Most-Popular Licensed Truck Brand Among Toy, Game Makers
Raptor Replaces Hummer as Most Popular Toy, Game Truck
Since it came out in 2010, the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor has been one of the Truck Trend staff's favorite full-size trucks. But the Raptor's popularity extends beyond just the showroom or the desert trails. The Raptor has edged out the long-running, but now-defunct Hummer brand as the most-popular licensed truck brand among toy and game makers.
Among the companies that have licensed the Raptor are Mattel for its Hot Wheels and Matchbox brands, Fisher-Price for its Power Wheels brand of ride-on electric toy trucks, Electronic Arts "Need for Speed," and Microsoft's Forza 4.
Although the Raptor is a uniquely North American product, companies around the world, including from Germany, Japan, China, and Brazil have licensed the rights to the name and design for their toys or products, highlighting the global appeal of the Raptor's tough, aggressive style.
Fisher-Price's Power Wheels Raptor has become one of Wal Mart's best-selling toys since its introduction in 2011. Sales of the actual F-150 Raptor are up more than 20 percent in 2012 over the same period last year.
