Global Ford Ranger Gets British 4x4 of the Year Award

Acclaimed Truck Continues to Impress Critics, Still Not for U.S. Sale

Jan 9, 2013
In an ironic exception of the "One Ford" policy, in which CEO Alan Mulally has streamlined product development internationally and has made previously overseas-only models available in the U.S., the acclaimed T6 global Ford Ranger just won another award from the U.K.'s 4x4 Magazine.

The editors noted the Ranger had "significantly raised the bar" in the segment, and said "no other pickup came close in terms of interior comfort and specification."

The U.S.-spec Ranger ceased production after the 2011 model year, and dealers are still selling off the remaining models. Ford's focus (no pun intended) of its U.S. truck strategy has been the F-series, from the half-ton F-150 to the Super Duty line for commercial and heavier-duty towing and hauling.
Although we won't be getting the Ranger in the U.S., one of the Ranger's optional engines, the 3.2-liter five-cylinder turbodiesel, will be offered as an option in the 2014 Transit van. There have been unsubstantiated rumors that the next-generation Ford F-150, to be previewed at the 2013 Detroit auto show may eventually offer this engine as an option, but there has been no confirmation of that speculation by Ford.
