Cadillac Confirms Next-Generation Escalade To Be Unveiled Later in Fall

New Flagship SUV Retains Significant Spot in Brand Lineup

Edward A. SanchezFeb 11, 2013
The Cadillac Escalade may not be the headlining act for the brand that it was in the early 2000s, but the combined sales of the three variants made it the brand's third best-selling model for 2012, behind the SRX crossover and CTS sedan. For some customers, nothing else will do than the biggest Caddy, and with the rear-drive Fleetwood Brougham long gone from the lineup, the Escalade fills the bill for those customers whose definition of luxury involves towing their Airstream or ski-boat.

Following the launch of the popular ATS compact performance sedan, and production reveal of the ELR plug-in hybrid, Cadillac is not letting off the throttle in terms of new product releases. A new CTS sedan is slated for reveal at next month's New York Auto Show, and the new Escalade will follow later in the fall, The Detroit News reports. The biggest show in the fall is Los Angeles, so count on the big Caddy getting a West Coast debut.
Since its introduction, the Escalade has shared a platform with the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and that will be the case with the new model as well. Underhood will almost certainly be a direct-injected 6.2-liter V-8 closely related to the LT1 that debuted in the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. While the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are launching with six-speed transmissions, the Escalade could get the long-rumored eight-speed from launch. The short and long-wheelbase ESV models are expected to continue, but the Avalanche-based EXT truck/SUV will probably not.
