2014 Chevrolet Silverado Configurator Goes Live
Still No Details on Engine Output, Capacities
First shown in December, then at the 2013 Detroit auto show, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are eagerly anticipated by dealers and truck enthusiasts, with the current-generation full-size models being on sale since the 2007 model year. The slow tease leading up to the official arrival in showrooms continues with the 2014 Silverado "configurator" that just went live on www.chevrolet.com/new2014silverado/#/build.
However, calling it a full-fledged "configurator" is a bit of a misnomer. No great revelations are to be found on specifications such as engine output, dimensions, towing or payload capacity, gear ratios, or any of those other numbers that interest hard-core truck nuts. Only general descriptions of standard and included equipment for each trim level.
For instance, the Work Truck 1 package includes a black front bumper, grille, and door handles, while upgrading to the Work Truck 2 package gets you a chrome front bumper and grille. Stepping up to the LTZ trim brings the 5.3-liter direct-injected V-8 standard. There's no mention of the optional 6.2-liter V-8 in the configurator, though it's a safe assumption that it may be exclusive to the LTZ trim in extended or crew cab only.
However, selecting the various trim levels and configurations does change the virtual image of the truck online, so you can get a good idea of what your dream truck will look like.
