Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG Inspires Custom Boat
Iconic SUV Spawns Creation of Five-Engine, 1750-hp Cigarette Boat
What do Mercedes-Benz AMG vehicles and Cigarette Boats have in common? They're both boisterous, loud, look-at-me status symbols that convey that you've got some money and you're not afraid to have a little fun with it. The 42-foot Huntress shown at the 2013 Miami boat show, inspired by the boxy, but oh-so-good G63 AMG, is not the first collaboration between AMG and Cigarette. The two high-performance firms also collaborated in 2010 on a boat inspired by the SLS gullwing coupe, and most recently on a 2200-hp electric boat inspired by the SLS AMG E-Cell electric sports car.
But the Huntress is powered by good old combusted hydrocarbons in the form of five Mercury Racing Verado 350SCi engines. Each engine is a 2.6-liter supercharged inline-six producing 350 hp. Add them up, and you're talking 1750 hp and a top speed of 78 mph. That terminal velocity may not seem like much when you're cruising 80 down the freeway in your CR-V, but if you know anything about hydrodynamics, and have been on the water at that speed, you'll know that's haulin' waves.
No price was given for the Huntress, but past collaborative efforts between AMG and Cigarette have had estimated prices well into the seven-figure range. As with the $130,000-plus G63 that inspired it, if you have to ask the price of the Huntress, you definitely can't afford it.
