Official: 2014 Range Rover Sport to Debut in New York
New Model to Launch with "Ground-Breaking" Live Drive
We knew it was a matter of if, not when, the 2014 Range Rover Sport would be announced. Besides being the logical next model in the lineup to get a new lightweight makeover, we've seen ample spy photos of it testing at the Nürburgring and elsewhere. Seeing as the New York metropolitan area is the best sales market for the model in the world, Land Rover will introduce the new enthusiast-minded SUV with a live drive through the streets of Manhattan on March 26 at 7:30 p.m. EST.
In terms of the hardware that the new Sport will be packing, it will likely follow in the footsteps of its predecessor by offering similar powertrains to the flagship Range Rover, meaning the 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated V-8 will likely be dropped in favor of the 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 as standard, with the 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 optional, and both mated to an eight-speed automatic.
Always surprisingly hefty for its size, we expect a similarly massive weight loss as its big brother, of at least 500 lb or more, thanks to extensive use of aluminum throughout the body and chassis. Land Rover promises the 2014 Range Rover Sport will be the brand's "most responsive and most agile vehicle to date." To whet our appetites further, Land Rover also released a brief teaser video on YouTube.
