Recall: 2013 Ford Explorer, 2012-2013 Nissan NV
SUV, Van Manufacturers to Correct Potential Safety Issues
Ford issued a recall for certain 2013 Explorer's with marginally sealed seam fuel tanks, while Nissan's full-size NV cargo van faces a recall for a problematic transmission lever gear selector plate lock clip.
2013 Ford Explorer
The problem with the Explorer is that the fuel tanks in certain models. In the side of the fuel tank, some of them may have a marginally sealed seam that might not provide the expected strength in the event of an impact. The tanks may also leak. Either issue has the potential to result in a fire if a source of ignition is present.
To fix the problem, Ford will begin notifying owners around April 22 and dealers will inspect and replace the fuel tanks if necessary. Owners can contact Ford at 866/436-7332.
The vehicles that are potentially affected are model-year 2013 Explorers that were manufactured from July 19, 2011 through March 15, 2012.
2012-2013 Nissan NV
With the Nissan NV, the problem is that the transmission lever gear selector plate lock clip on certain 2012-2013 Nissan NVs -- the vans with steering column-mounted transmission shift levers -- may have been installed incorrectly. This may cause the gear position indicator to not accurately indicate the gear shift lever position, an issue that could be due to road vibrations. The way an owner can see if this is a problem? On affected vehicles, when the gear position indicator shows Park, the vehicle may still be in gear and could roll away. That can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Nissan’s fix? Starting around April 8, Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will correct the installation of the transmission lever gear selector plate lock clip for free. Owners can contact Nissan at 800/647-7261.
18,880 model-year 2012-2013 NV vehicles manufactured from December 20, 2010 through January 4, 2013 are potentially affected.
