Acura, Hyundai, Nissan SUVs, Ram Truck Appear on Ward's 2013 Best Interior List
Imports Dominate List, Cost-No-Object
Ward's Automotive has become well known for its top-10 lists, most notably its selection of engines and interiors. This year's list of Ward's 10 Best Interiors was dominated by import brands, taking seven out of 10 spots. Among the four SUV and truck entries, three were import brands. The primary judging criteria were materials, ergonomics, comfort, safety, value, fit and finish, and overall design.
The Acura RDX earned a spot on the list for its high-quality fit and finish, which was deemed by the judges to be a major improvement over its predecessor. The comfortable back seat and generous cargo area were also noted as strong points of the interior.
The Hyundai Santa Fe Sport got recognition for its distinctive tapered center stack accented with geometric details and complementary contrasting colors. The Nissan Pathfinder was recognized for its innovative Latch and Glide second-row seats, high-quality carpeting, and large panoramic sunroof.
The Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn, the sole pickup on this year's list, wowed the judges with its Western-themed interior, which includes buckled saddlebags on the front seatbacks, fine stitching detail, and natural-looking wood trim. The judges even went so far as to say, "If Bentley made a pickup truck, its cabin would look like this."
