Recall: 2012-2013 Honda CR-V, 2013 Acura RDX for Brake Shift Lock

More than 200,000 Units Affected

Edward A. SanchezApr 24, 2013
Honda is recalling more than 200,000 2012-2013 CR-V and Odyssey models and 2013 Acura RDX SUVs for a faulty brake-shift interlock mechanism that may not function properly in subfreezing temperatures. In certain conditions, the gear selector could be moved from park without depressing the brake pedal. The brake-shift interlock has been a requirement on vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions built after September 1, 2010. No crashes or injuries have been reported as a result of this issue.

The Problem: The brake-lock mechanism may become slow in subfreezing temperatures, allowing the shifter to be moved from park without the brake being applied, in violation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 114. This could cause an unintended roll-away, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Honda will notify affected owners, and the recall campaign will start on May 13, 2013. Affected owners can contact Honda at 800/999-1009, Acura at 800/382-2238 or call NHTSA's vehicle safety hotline at 888/327-4236.

Number of Units Affected: Approximately 128,000 2012-2013 Honda CR-V, 59,000 Odyssey and 17,500 2013 Acura RDX models.
