Recall: 2013 Subaru Outback, Legacy Steering Column Shafts

Inner, Outer Steering Shafts May Become Disconnected

May 15, 2013
Subaru is recalling 2013 model Outback and Legacy vehicles built from February 15, 2012, through June 15, 2012. In the affected vehicles, the inner and outer shafts of the steering column assembly may become disengaged from one another.

The Problem: The inner and outer shafts of the steering column assembly could disengage from one another. If the shafts become disengaged, the driver could lose steering ability, increasing the risk of a collision.
The Fix: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering column assembly free of charge. The recall campaign will begin on, or before, May 15, 2013. Owners can contact Subaru at 1-800/782-2783 or NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888/327-4236. The recall campaign number is WQI-45.
Number of Vehicles Affected: 5379 2013 model Outback and Legacy models built between February 15, 2012, and June 15, 2012.
