Brabus Unveils 611-hp B63 Custom Mercedes-Benz GL63
German Tuner Adds More Power, Flash to Full-Size AMG SUV
The Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG is already one of the boldest SUVs on the market, with its 550-hp twin-turbo V-8 power, rumbling exhaust, and 21-inch wheels. But as boisterous and forceful as the high-performance three-row SUV is straight off the line in Affalterbach (or, more accurately, Tuscaloosa), it's still not enough for some buyers.
If you want your SUV to be even more in-your-face, loud, and ostentatious, Brabus has just what you need with its Brabus B63 620 Widestar package. Not that anyone has accused the "standard" GL63 of being underpowered, but for that extra little bit of oomph, Brabus' tuning package brings the total output up to 611 hp and 604 lb-ft of torque, for an estimated 0-60 time of 4.7 seconds.
To complement the added power, the package also includes a Brabus-tuned control module for the Airmatic air suspension lowering ride height by an additional 1.2 inches over stock. Putting power to the pavement is the customer's choice of 21-, 22-, or 23-inch wheels on Continental, Pirelli, or Yokohama tires. Helping to reign in the heavyweight horsepower are upgraded brakes, a massive 15.9 inches in the front and 15 inches in the rear, gripped with six-piston calipers on the front wheels and four-piston clampers out back. The Brabus sport exhaust has a two-position butterfly valve for extra-obnoxious "sport" mode, or a more restrained "coming home" mode (Brabus' terminology, not ours).
Additional customization options include Brabus backlit doorsill plates, custom upholstery, yacht-inspired wood trim, and a 200-mph speedometer. Considering the non-modified GL63 AMG rings the register at more than $117,000, if you even have to think about asking the cost of the Brabus upgrades, you definitely can't afford them.
