Audi Adds Diesel, Performance for 2014 Q5
More Info on the Q5 TDI and the SQ5
We have heard about the possibility of a diesel Q5 for quite a while, and Audi has finally released official details. For 2014, the company is adding a TDI version of the Q5, which will be the first time Audi has ever offered a full line of TDI clean diesel vehicles in the United States. The Q5 TDI is said to offer an EPA-estimated 24 city mpg and 31 mpg on the highway. Like the Q7, the Q5’s engine is a 3.0-liter V-6 that produces 240 hp; however, in the case of the Q5, the engine puts out 22 lb-ft more torque than in the Q7: 428 lb-ft compared with the Q7’s 406. That the smaller, lighter sport/utility offers more torque could make the vehicle a rocket. Pricing for the TDI starts at $47,395.
Another new Q5-based rocket is the SQ5. This is the first time Audi has done an S version of any Q model. The engine here is a supercharged 354-hp, 347-lb-ft, 3.0-liter TFSI V-6. The company expects the SQ5 will go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. Design cues include the front and rear bumpers you would see on the other S models, Platinum Gray grille and diffuser, aluminum side mirror housings, and quad exhaust tips. Twenty-inch wheels are standard, and 21s are available. Inside, sport seats that use a combination of leather and Alcantara are standard; a Nappa interior and comfort package is available. Audi also notes that the SQ5 gets Milano leather seats when the sport/utility is equipped with comfort seats. Pricing has not yet been announced for the SQ5.
Other changes in the Q5 line: the 2.0T now puts out 220 hp, up from 211 in 2013. The 2.0T now comes standard with the Convenience package, and Audi advanced key is now a part of the Premium Plus and Prestige trim lines. In addition, Audi side assist will be available as a stand-alone option with Premium Plus models. The 2014 Q5 has a starting MSRP of $38,195.
Audi announced changes to the Q7 and allroad for 2014. The Q7 comes standard with xenon plus headlights, and the Premium Plus trim level now includes Audi advanced key and a power steering column. The TDI option returns for 2014 as well. MSRP starts at $48,595, and $53,795 with the TDI. As with the Q5, the allroad’s 2.0T engine now has 220 hp, and the Convenience package is standard. There are two new colors, Cuvée Silver and Dakota Gray, Audi advanced key is now included in the Premium Plus package, and Prestige models come with manual side-window shades. Audi side assist will be an available option on Premium Plus models. Pricing starts at $41,595 for the allroad.
