UPDATE: No Delay In 2014 Jeep Cherokee Consumer Launch
Chrysler Claims No Delay in Retail Deliveries of New SUV
In response to an earlier report saying that the introduction of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee has been postponed to address some quality issues that have arisen in pre-production trials, Chrysler representative Kathy Graham countered that the extra due diligence ensuring models going into customers hands meet high internal quality targets will not affect the originally-planned launch schedule. The new Cherokee was introduced at the New York Auto Show in April with a targeted delivery date of third quarter 2013. Graham said the company is still on-target to begin retail deliveries in September.
Reid Bigland, current head of U.S. and Canadian Sales for Chrysler and incoming CEO of the Ram Truck division said, "We're extremely cautious with what goes out to the market, particularly when it comes to new product. We've only got one chance to make a positive first impression."
Although well regarded as a brand by SUV enthusiasts, Jeep has long ranked below-average on quality surveys, and came in below the industry average of 113 problems per 100 vehicles in the 2013 J.D. Power Initial Quality survey with 118 problems per 100 vehicles.
