2015 GMC Canyon Shows Sierra Influence

Unique Grille Bears Resemblance to Big Brother

Jul 15, 2013
As GM's new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize truck twins, which may end up with different names, inch closer to production, we're getting a little better idea of what they will look like. Previous photos indicate the Chevrolet model will get a grille that looks like a cross between the current GMT-900 Tahoe and the new Silverado. These latest shots are clearly of the GMC, as evidenced by its Sierra-inspired grille design and the lack of Chevrolet's trademark horizontal strip.

We're confident there will be at least two engine options, a four-cylinder and a V-6, but we could see as many as four options. The 3.6-liter direct-injected V-6 will be the likely up-level option, with the 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine as the base mill. However, those two could also be supplemented with a 2.0-liter turbo four and a 2.8-liter turbodiesel I-4. All are expected to be mated to a six-speed automatic, although the entry-level I-4 could be offered with a manual transmission.

While GM has said the U.S.-spec truck would be significantly different than its overseas' siblings, influences of the global Colorado are still apparent in the upswept beltline on the rear doors of the crew cab. However, interior appointments and trim are expected to be unique to the U.S.-spec models, and considerably better-appointed than the somewhat Spartan trim of the global Colorado.
