2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Starts At $20,295
Most Options Bundled in Packages
Mitsubishi released pricing for the new 2014 Outlander earlier this year, making the claim for being one of the lowest-priced seven-passenger SUVs on the market. While we can't quibble with the abundance of equipment and value on that model, we were disappointed by somewhat mundane styling on the midsize model, which abandoned the Lancer Evo-esque forward-canted grille for a more conventional, conservative look. Happy to say, its little brother Outlander Sport retains a more aggressive look for 2014, as well as a compelling value proposition, starting just a hair over $20,000 including $825 destination. Alaska and Hawaii residents have to pay a tad higher destination of $950.
Similar to how Honda organizes its trim levels, Mitsubishi keeps the options simple with three major option packages, and just a handful of smaller, less comprehensive packages. The most comprehensive package is the Touring Package available on SE models which includes a 7-inch touchscreen navigation system with real-time traffic and 3-D mapping, leather seating surfaces, a nine-speaker, 710-watt Rockford Fosgate sound system, power driver's seat, and panoramic glass roof. All this for just $4900. The Premium and Premium w/Panoramic roof packages go for $1000 and $2100, respectively, and do not include the touchscreen navigation, but keep the nine-speaker sound system.
If you prefer to row your own gears, the ES 2WD is your only choice. Unlike some other models that confine you to a penalty-box trim for choosing a manual, the ES five-speed is theoretically available with the touchscreen navigation system, although in our experience, finding such a combination on the lot is rare.
