Ford Offering CNG/LPG Prep Package on 2014 F-150
Ford First To Offer Gaseous Fuel-Prep Package on Half Ton
The U.S. may have temporary respites in gasoline and diesel prices, but the long-term trajectory is pointing in one direction, and that's up. For natural gas, on the other hand, it seems we're discovering more of it every day, which continues to drive the price down and make it an attractive alternative-fuel option for business fleets. Following in the footsteps of its offering on the F-250 Super Duty, Ford is announcing the availability of a gaseous-prep fuel package as a $315 option on the 2014 F-150.
In addition to enabling operation on natural gas, the package, which consists of hardened valves, valve seats, pistons, and rings, also allows for LPG (propane) as a fueling option. The gaseous-fuel upfit package will be offered only with the base 3.7-liter V-6. When configured as a dual-fuel vehicle, the extended range of the gaseous fuel brings the F-150's total potential range to 750 miles.
With the addition of the F-150, Ford now offers eight models with a gaseous fuel-prep option, including the Transit and Transit Connect, E-Series Van, Super Duty trucks and chassis-cab, F-650 medium-duty truck, and F53 and 59 stripped chassis. Final configuration and upfitting of gaseous fuel configurations is handled by third-party Ford QVM (qualified vehicle modifier) contractors, such as Westport, Venchurs, or Roush.
