2014 Ford Transit Connect Passenger Van Available To Order in Europe
European Model Offered with I-3, Diesel Options
The Ford Transit Connect has been something of a surprise success story for Ford in the U.S. market. The compact commercial cargo van has been on the streets of Europe and other markets for more than a decade, but has been in the U.S. only since 2010. They're now common sights on American roads, giving small businesses just the right size vehicle for their needs. Ford has announced that its 2014 Tourneo Connect and Grand Tourneo Connect are now available to order. In American English, that translates to the short- and long-wheelbase versions of the 2014 Transit Connect Wagon.
Although visually almost identical to their North American counterparts, the European models will have some differences from their U.S. siblings. In addition to the 1.6-liter EcoBoost I-4, rated at 148 hp for European models, Ford's acclaimed 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine will be offered as an option, as well as a Dagenham, England-built 1.6-liter Duratorq turbodiesel four-cylinder. The I-3 engine will only be offered in the short-wheelbase, two-row, five-passenger version.
The diesel and the 1.6-liter EcoBoost I-4 are offered in both configurations. The European models are also offered with auto stop-start, a feature that's commonplace and widely accepted in Europe, but one toward which Americans have not shown great enthusiasm. Engine options for the U.S.-spec 2014 Transit Connect are the 2.5-liter naturally aspirated I-4 and the 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbocharged I-4, both mated to a six-speed automatic.
