Right-Hand-Drive SUVs Shipping Worldwide, Next Murano To Come from Canton

Edward A. SanchezAug 27, 2013
Thanks to a stable, established workforce, a relatively mature infrastructure, and high productivity rates, the U.S. is increasingly becoming a vehicle export source for foreign-brand automakers. The latest U.S.-built vehicle to make the journey to overseas markets is the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. Exporting U.S.-built vehicles to other markets is nothing new for Nissan or other automakers, but what makes this batch of Pathfinders special is that they're right-hand-drive models destined for Australia and New Zealand, the first U.S.-built Nissans being shipped to those Southern Hemisphere markets.
Pathfinders bound for down under are subjected to a special pesticide spray treatment at the port of Savannah, Georgia, to kill any foreign plant or animal matter, due to strict Australian regulations protecting the country's unique ecosystem
Vehicles built in Smyrna are now sold in 61 markets, with Nissan hoping to expand the reach of Smyrna-built vehicles in the years ahead. More U.S.-built Nissans will be headed to overseas markets, with the Canton, Mississippi, plant becoming the global source for the 2014 Nissan Murano two-row crossover, a hot and growing segment in global markets.
Among the export destinations Nissan is targeting with its U.S.-made vehicles are Ghana, Nigeria, Philippines, Vietnam, Israel, and Latin America.
