Jeep Wrangler Polar Edition to Debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show
Special Edition Wrangler Inspired by Antarctica's Extreme Climate
Jeep has never shied away from offering special editions of its Wrangler, and it has now announced it's showing a new one at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show. If you remember, Jeep showed the Arctic Edition of the Wrangler at the 2011 Frankfurt show, complete with Yetis on the badges and in the cabin. This year, the company is following up with another cold-weather model, the Polar Edition, which will be on display on the Jeep stand at the high-profile auto show. It's based on a Wrangler Unlimited (four-door) Sahara and was inspired by the severe conditions found in the Antarctic.
The Polar Edition is painted in a new color, Hydro Blue, and the interior has been done in black. It will also be offered in Billet Silver Metallic or Bright White. As with other special editions, this Wrangler has unique features, such as Polar badges that show the coordinates of Vostok in Antarctica -- 78 degrees S and 106 degrees E -- where the coldest temperature in the world, -128.56 degrees Fahrenheit, was recorded. The Polar Edition sports 18-inch alloy wheels in Gloss Black, a body-color hardtop, Gloss Black accents and Jeep logo, and cool Mopar accessories such as a black fuel filler door. There are also three-color hood graphics that show the outline of mountains. Inside, the leather seats have Pearl White stitching and Polar embroidery in the headrests, and the grab bar and ring around the dashboard vent are in gloss Ceramic White. Another special feature is the Ceramic White rings on the gauge cluster and a blue background for the instruments, also with the Polar logo. Options include the Dual Top setup -- the Sunrider soft top and Freedom Top hardtop are available in one package -- plus the Polar Pack 1 special package, with front side airbags, and UConnect infotainment and nav with 6.5-inch touchscreen, 40GB hard drive, USB and aux ports, and a DVD player.
Buyers can choose from two or four doors, and, because this is going to be sold only in Europe, can get the 284-hp, 3.6-liter Pentastar engine with a five-speed automatic or a 200-hp, 2.8-liter turbodiesel with six-speed manual or five-speed automatic, once it goes on sale in the first quarter of 2014.
