EPA Releases Official Fuel Economy Numbers for the 2014 Jeep Cherokee
Four-Cylinder Models Get 31 Highway mpg, V-6 Gets 28
pg city/31 highway, and peaks at 19 mpg city/28 highway for the front-drive V-6. The two engines are the 2.4-liter MultiAir I-4, with 184 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque, or the 3.2-liter version of Chrysler's Pentastar V-6, which puts out 271 hp and 239 lb-ft. Both are backed by a ZF nine-speed automatic. With the new Cherokee, Jeep made fuel economy a high priority, but didn't want to sacrifice off-road capability in the process. There are three AWD systems available. The I-4 AWD models get 21/28 mpg and the AWD V-6 gets 19/27 mpg. That's a significant improvement over the outgoing V-6-only Liberty, which was rated at 16 city/22 highway mpg as a 2WD model, and 15/21 mpg with AWD.
