2014 Kia Sportage Gets New GDI Engine, Detail Changes
Kia's Style-Forward Crossover Gets a Refresh
The 2014 Kia Sportage adds new features and styling details that promise to keep it an interesting contender in the compact crossover segment. Since its Peter Schreyer-penned redesign for the 2011 model year, the Sportage has been a stylistic standout in the typically staid small-crossover class. The 2014 model adds a redesigned front grille and optional HID headlights and LED taillights.
Other than the visual upgrades for the 2014 model year, the 2014 Sportage gets a new 182 hp, 177 lb-ft gasoline-direct-injection 2.4-liter engine on the LX and EX models, representing a 6 hp and 9 lb-ft increase in power over last year's port-injected 2.4-liter engine. Final EPA figures have not yet been announced for the new engine, but expect at least a 1-mpg improvement in both city and highway figures over the current model. The 260-hp, 269 lb-ft GDI Turbo 2.0-liter engine offered in the SX trim carries over for 2014.
The other two major changes are on the inside, with the addition of a telescoping function to the tilt steering wheel, and UVO eServices standard on the EX and SX models, and available as a package option on the LX trim. Other features previously optional on lower-trim Sportages are now standard across-the-board, such as high-performance shocks, and rear-seat vents and reclining outboard seats. Pricing for the 2014 Sportage line has not yet been announced.
