F-150 SVT Raptor Crushing Sales Goals, Ford to Build More

When Ford's global performance vehicle chief engineer Jamal Hameedi visited our office recently, he discussed the sales success of the F-150 SVT Raptor. "We're building so many more Raptors today than when we started," Hameedi said. "There's still a lot of gold to be mined." Despite being on the market for four years, the Raptor remains in demand and the automaker hopes to increase production soon.
Ford currently builds three Raptors an hour and that number needs to increase to five an hour to meet current demand. Ford is working with suppliers to accomplish that goal, according to a Detroit Free Press report. Last year Ford sold about 13,000 Raptors and is expected to easily surpass that number by the end of 2013. Dealers currently have a 15-day supply of the extreme off-roader, which is much lower than the industry average of 60 days.

"I'm actually quite shocked that competitors haven't come out," Hameedi told us last month, "because we're having a field day in the market with the only game in town."
With a 411-hp 6.2-liter V-8, Fox Racing shocks, and big knobby tires, the F-150 SVT Raptor is practically unstoppable on the trails and dunes. While Ford hasn't confirmed a Raptor for the next-generation 2015 F-150, these latest sales figures should keep fans of the monster truck very hopeful.
Watch the WOT episode below for our roundtable discussion with Ford's Hameedi, who discusses the Raptor and other SVT products.
