Current Rogue To Live On as 2014 Nissan Rogue Select

Edward A. SanchezOct 4, 2013
In a strategy similar to that of its upscale brand Infiniti with concurrent sales of the G37 and new Q50, Nissan will sell the current-generation Rogue compact crossover alongside the all-new 2014 model for the immediate future. The lame-duck model will be named "Rogue Select" and will have a starting MSRP below $20,000, as a value proposition to small SUV shoppers. The 2014 Nissan Rogue starts at $23,350.
The 2014 Nissan Rogue adds the option of a third-row seat, but even with its larger size, the third row is only habitable by young children. Although the 2014 model produces the same 170 hp and 175 lb-ft as the 2013 model, refinements to the engine and transmission are enabling the 2014 model to achieve 33 mpg highway, a significant 5 mpg improvement over the 2013 model.
Nissan is claiming the Rogue Select fulfills a customer need for a "low-cost, high-content" model. The Rogue is Nissan's single best-selling SUV, with 142,349 units sold for 2012, and sales up 16 percent year-to-date through August. The Rogue Select will continue to be built at Nissan's plant in Kyushu, Japan, same as the 2013 model. The 2014 model started production in September in Smyrna, Tennessee. The 2014 Rogue select will launch in January 2014, with further details on equipment and pricing closer to its on-sale date.
