Chrysler Gets 15 Category Wins in Influential Association Event

Edward A. SanchezOct 14, 2013
Although always known as "truck country," within the past decade, Texas has strengthened its reputation as an important bellwether in accounting for an increasingly larger share of truck and SUV sales nationwide. The Texas Auto Writers Association, which consists of Texas-based and national automotive journalists, recently concluded its Texas Truck Rodeo, which includes comparisons of trucks, SUVs, and crossovers. For the second year in a row, Chrysler products, specifically those from the Ram and Jeep Brands, dominated the competition. For the second year in a row, the 2014 Ram 1500 won the coveted Truck of Texas title, and the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee took the accolade for the fourth consecutive year.
Out of 24 model and feature categories, Chrysler products took top prize for 15 of them, including best heavy-duty truck with the 2014 Ram 2500 HD, best commercial vehicle with the 2014 Ram ProMaster, best powertrain with the new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 offered in the Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Jeep taking both best midsize SUV and best compact SUV with the Grand Cherokee and Cherokee, respectively.
Although the event was a major win for Chrysler and the Ram and Jeep brands, other manufacturers did take home some awards, with the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor taking the best off-road pickup prize, the Hyundai Santa Fe winning the CUV of Texas and best midsize CUV award, and the 2014 Acura MDX winning the best luxury CUV category.
