Video: Euro-Spec Honda CR-V Diesel Ad Is Not What it Seems

Karla SanchezOct 23, 2013
With the new Honda CR-V 1.6 Diesel now on sale in Europe, the Japanese automaker has released a new ad called "An Impossible Made Possible." To play on that theme, the video is packed with tons of trippy optical illusions that prove not everything is what it seems.
For example, the spot starts out by showing the CR-V traversing a surreal landscape that was drawn on the ground with paint, making it look like the crossover is teetering on a platform above skyscraper-shaped blocks. The CR-V then drives off and heads for a row of pylons, but just when you think you're about to witness a crash, the CR-V drives over the painted illusions. It only gets more fun, as the CR-V is then featured in an Ames room illusion in which it appears smaller than it actually is, looking like a toy car sitting atop a coffee table. You only realize it's a full size car when it appears to drive off the table and up to the woman who's sitting at it.
Honda isn't just playing illusionist for no reason, as the entire point behind the spot is to show that the automaker can do things that can't be done, like introduce a crossover that uses less fuel yet delivers more miles. Should Honda bring the diesel-powered CR-V to the U.S.?
Check out the fun imagery and see how it was all done in the videos below.
