Caught! 2015 Ford Expedition, Inside and Out
Refreshed Large SUV Expected To Finally Get Updated F-150 Powertrains
There has been a lot of buzz about many of Ford's current and upcoming car and truck models, including the 2015 F-150, the updated 2015 Super Duty and its even more colossally powerful 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V-8, and, of course, the 2015 Mustang. But the one vehicle we haven't heard a great deal about was the Expedition, Ford's full-size, body-on-frame standard bearer. These shots show what look to be late-stage 2015 Ford Expedition mules out testing.
Based on these spyshots, the vehicle will likely not be entirely brand new, but instead a comprehensive refresh, which will likely include all-new engines from the F-150 lineup and a new interior showing a strong resemblance to the current F-150. The inside shows a steering wheel shape and design similar to the current F-150’s, with the addition of pushbutton starting. Both short- and long-wheelbase mules were seen testing, indicating the Expedition EL will continue in the lineup.
The long-running 5.4-liter 24-valve V-8, which has been discontinued in the F-150 for several years, will likely finally be retired in favor of one or several of the F-150's engines. The 5.0-liter, 360-hp DOHC V-8 will likely be standard, with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 possibly offered as an option. There is also a possibility that the F-150's base 3.7-liter naturally-aspirated V-6 may be offered as an entry-level powertrain for budget-conscious shoppers. It's highly unlikely the Raptor's thirsty 6.2-liter V-8 will be offered in the Expedition.
