Replacement for Subaru Tribeca Could Be Coming for U.S.

Vehicle Expected To Be Based on Exiga JDM Tall Wagon

2014 Forester winning our 2014 SUV of the Year award is sure to give the compact SUV an additional shot in the arm. The largest of Subaru's crossovers, the Tribeca, has not been as fortunate as its smaller brethren in the sales department. Through the first 10 months of 2013, the Tribeca has sold a tepid 1348 units, a little more than a tenth of the number of Foresters Subaru sells in a typical month. Despite the disappointing sales performance, Subaru still feels there's room for a seven-passenger model in its U.S. lineup, according to Automotive News.
The current Tribeca will end production after the 2014 model year, but its replacement may not immediately follow it. Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, president of Subaru parent company Fuji Heavy Industries, said a new seven-passenger vehicle will be coming for the U.S. market, based on heavy lobbying of Subaru's U.S. dealers, who have grown tired of the dated Tribeca.
The new model will likely be based off the next-generation Exiga tall-wagon sold in Japan, which looks like a slightly longer, taller Outback or Legacy wagon. Yoshinaga stressed the new model will be "completely different" from the Tribeca.
