2015 Porsche Macan Configurator Goes Live With Pricing

Yes, we've seen the new 2015 Porsche Macan plenty now, but what we didn't know until now was how much it would cost. At the 2013 Los Angeles auto show, the German automaker announced pricing details for the Macan and the build-your-own configurator has gone live with a listed base price of $51,095.
The bigger but older Cayenne starts at $50,595 so what exactly commands the $500 premium over the smaller crossover? Forty more horses. However, it's important to note this starting price is for the Macan S, which is powered by a version of the 2014 Panamera's 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 making 340 hp. Meanwhile, the Macan Turbo, which starts at $73,495, is powered by a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V-6 that cranks out 400 hp. Both feature a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive as standard. Porsche hasn’t released torque figures for either engine or talked about a future Macan base model in the $40,000 range, which we suspect will arrive so it can slot below the Cayenne's base price.

We've reported before that a base Macan could utilize a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 making up to 250 hp, and a two-door variant could even compete with the Range Rover Evoque. For comparison, the Range Rover Evoque in four-door form starts at $42,040 and is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 that makes 240 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. Three of the overwhelming number of options on a $90,000 Macan Turbo we built include $3120 Aurum Metallic paint, $3300 911 Turbo Design 21-inch wheels, and even a $140 fire extinguisher.

The German automaker says the Macan is everything you'd expect from a Porsche, and Matthias Mueller, president and CEO of Porsche, says you can feel Porsche DNA running through when you drive. Expected to be a leader in the compact luxury crossover segment, Mueller boasted buyers will be able to get ceramic brakes on the Macan. As we found out at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show, the Macan sits low, and not only does that make it look good, it also makes for easier ingress and egress -- you step into it instead of climbing into it. With looks this good, we know why Porsche is so confident the Macan will be the fan favorite among its segment.
