Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6 Battles Normal G63 AMG in Head 2 Head

When a Mercedes G63 AMG won a Head 2 Head against the new 2013 Range Rover, host Jonny Lieberman was convinced the boxy Benz was unbeatable. Apparently he may have spoke too soon because Mercedes-Benz went out and created the G63 AMG 6x6, which Lieberman uses to challenge the regular G63 AMG on this episode.

This Head 2 Head takes place in and around Graz, Austria, hometown to the mighty G-Class. Lieberman is quite familiar with the G-Class, having driven the off-roader through extreme conditions and roads, including an excursion through Sweden near the Arctic Circle in a G65 AMG. The G63 AMG 6x6, however, is on a completely different level, riding on three axles and tipping the scales at over 9000 pounds. With an overall length of about 19 feet, the 6x6 is large and heavy, but still very fast, accelerating from 0-60 mph in under 8 seconds. Inside, the 6x6 looks like any other regular G-Class, but there are differences. For starters there’s no cruise control or rearview camera. There’s also auxiliary switches to control the additional fuel tank and a compressor that deflates and inflates the tires.
The normal G63 AMG has its advantages. It’s faster, more maneuverable, and much, much cheaper (the 6x6 is estimated to cost $625,000). That said, there can only be one winner among these hardcore Benz off-roaders. Watch the video to find out Lieberman's pick.
