2014 Volkswagen Touareg X Commemorates Decade of Brand's Premium SUV
Well-Equipped Special Edition Marks 10 Years of Success
The original Volkswagen Touareg was conceived and launched during the company's ambitious early-2000s era when boss Ferdinand Piëch believed the Volkswagen brand could compete with any other brand on earth, in both content and status. While nobody questioned the VW Group's formidable engineering capabilities, some questioned the wisdom of a $100,000 luxury sedan with the "people's car" badge adorning the grille. The Phaeton was subsequently pulled from the U.S. market due to slow sales. But the other vehicle that came from this era, the Volkswagen Touareg, continues today, and has sold a total of 700,000 worldwide over the last 10 years. To commemorate the success of its premium SUV, the people's brand is introducing the 2014 Volkswagen Touareg X, which joins the R-Line (pictured below) for 2014.
Based on the TDI Lux trim, the Touareg X is well equipped and priced accordingly, at $57,080, including $910 destination charge. For that price, you get 19-inch "Moab" alloy wheels, Moonlight Blue Pearl paint, LED taillights, illuminated aluminum doorsill plates, pushbutton start, bi-xenon headlights, an 8-inch touchscreen navigation system, 12-way power front heated seats with driver-side memory, and Vienna black leather seating surfaces and a black headliner. If you like the look of this limited-edition Touareg, you'd better act fast. Only 1000 Touareg X models will be sold in the U.S.
