2014 Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition Debuts
New Trim Bundles Popular Options in V-6, Diesel Models
Porsche's headlining model over the past few weeks has undoubtedly been the compact crossover Macan, but that doesn't mean the other SUV staple of its lineup, the Cayenne, is being neglected. Porsche announced this week the availability of the Cayenne Platinum model for V-6 and diesel models, combining popular options in one package.
Option bundling is a relative rarity among high-end German cars, with multiple a la carte options being the norm, often adding tens of thousands of dollars to the sticker price. Although the Platinum is hardly cheap at $64,295 for the V-6 model and $67,895 for the diesel, including $995 destination, those prices are entirely reasonable in the context of the Cayenne's overall price range, which can go well into the six figures for topline Turbo S models.
Although the Platinum name is used by other brands to designate their topline models, in the case of the Cayenne, it applies only to the V-6 and diesel models, not to the V-8 Cayenne S, Turbo, and Turbo S. The Platinum package includes park assist, a convenience package including a 7-inch touchscreen navigation system, bi-xenon headlights with Porsche Dynamic Lighting, driver-side memory seats, moonroof, heated front seats, and auto-dimming mirrors. The audio system for the Platinum models is a 14-speaker Bose system with 585 watts, satellite receiver, and six-disc changer.
Exterior colors available on the Platinum are black, white, Meteor Grey Metallic, Basalt Black Metallic, Mahogany Metallic, and Carrara (with an 'a') White. All Cayenne Platinum models get Platinum Silver Metallic exterior accents and Platinum Edition doorsill guards, and 19-inch Cayenne Design II wheels.
On the inside, Platinum Edition models can be spotted by their unique black and Luxor Beige two-tone interiors. A partial leather interior is standard, with a full leather interior optional. The Cayenne Platinum Edition will go on sale in the U.S. in January 2014.
