Volvo XC Coupe Concept Teased Before Detroit Show
Volvo's booth will not go unnoticed at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, as the Swedish automaker has announced it will be showing a new concept, which could give us a sneak peek at what the 2015 XC90 will look like when it arrives next year. Dubbed the XC Coupe Concept, the show car looks like something we've seen before.
The teaser images show a very stylish SUV that takes after the stunning Concept Coupe (pictured at right) that was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. It appears to have the same squared-off snout, "floating" P1800-like grille, and T-graphic DRL headlamps at the front. Around back, the XC concept shares styling cues with the Coupe Concept, but sports a wagon-like rear end and a higher roof. It has the same wide rear, pronounced wheel wells, and C-shaped taillights, though they've been stretched along the rear window to maintain the signature vertical rear lamps found on current XC models. Although Volvo hasn't shown us what's inside, we can likely expect the same large rectangular touchscreen, clear shift knob, and a stylish interior.
The new XC90 is a huge deal for Volvo, since the seven-passenger SUV will be the very first vehicle in the lineup to utilize Volvo's new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA). The new architecture allows almost any Volvo car to be built on the same core set of chassis components, while also shaving down weight to improve efficiency and performance. The XC90 will also debut with a range of new I-4 engines that will replace the five- and six-cylinder inline engines currently offered in the SUV.
If the XC Coupe Concept looks as good as it does in the photos, we're sure it'll make waves when it debuts in Detroit in January.
