2014 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra 1500 Recalled for Fire Hazard

Recall Applies to 4.3, 5.3 Models, 6.2 Not Affected

Jan 11, 2014
In terms of volume and significance, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 were some of the biggest debuts for General Motors last year. It was imperative that quality was top-notch. While the new GM trucks are generally highly regarded for their quality, workmanship and refinement, no vehicles are perfect, and the latest recall involving these trucks prove the point. GM is recalling more than 300,000 Silverado and Sierra models with the 4.3-liter V-6 and 5.3-liter V-8 EcoTec3 engines. The 6.2-liter V-8 is not affected. GM has received eight reports of engine bay fires, all of which happened in cold-weather areas.
As a precaution, GM is recommending that owners not leave their trucks idling unattended. Some possible telltale signs of an issue are the check engine light staying on continuously, and an "engine power reduced" warning on the driver information center display.
GM will mail letters to owners later this week, but customers can contact their dealers starting Monday, January 13 to schedule appointments to re-flash the engine computer. The process takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. The majority of the trucks affected are in the United States, with another 26,000 in Canada, 665 in Mexico and 7753 trucks in other markets affected.
