Final Assembly on Nissan NV200 London Taxi in Coventry
Body, Interior, Suspension, and Steering Upgrades Done in U.K.
The Nissan NV200 has made a big splash in the taxi industry, not just in the U.S., but in Europe as well, when it was announced it would be the city's future "black cab." We recently got a look at the bespoke styling treatment for NV200 London Taxis, but at the time, a few questions remained unanswered. Where the taxis would be built was one of them. NV200 models sold in Europe come out of Nissan's plant in Barcelona, Spain, even though Nissan is the single largest automaker by volume in the U.K. with its massive Sunderland complex.
It turns out assembly of the NV200 London Taxi will be a joint effort between Nissan and upfitter ADV manufacturing, based in Coventry, northwest of London and just east of Birmingham. NV200 models will arrive from Barcelona to ADV, which will install the new front bodywork, install a new taxi-specific interior, and upgrade the suspension and steering. In addition to its work on the NV200 taxi, ADV is also a supplier of exterior trim components to Bentley and Aston Martin.
Gasoline-powered NV200 London Taxis will be put into service staring in December 2014, with electric NV200 models expected to go into service in calendar 2015.
