Thai-Market Chevrolet Trailblazer Ad is Retro-Cheesy Awesomeness
'80s-Style Action Guitar Soundtrack, Slow-Mo Jumps Get Our Thumbs-Up
While the U.S. market will finally be getting our own version of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado we've been pining for over the last few years, including the optional torque-machine Duramax 2.8 I-4 diesel coming in 2016, there's one other model foreign markets get that we wouldn't mind seeing stateside. It's the Colorado-based Trailblazer. The mommy-mobile Traverse ostensibly replaced the Trailblazer in 2008, and from a kid-hauling practicality and interior volume standpoint, it was a major improvement over the GMT-360 models. But being essentially a minivan minus the sliding doors, it didn't do much to get enthusiast hearts pumping, especially after the LS2-powered Trailblazer SS.
Although undeniably cheesy, this Thai-market ad spot for the new Trailblazer makes us want to grab the wheel and go for some off-roading adventures. It starts off innocuously enough, with some driving footage on a road. But instead of the "A man and his truck" schtick, we've been subjected to with the latest round of Chevy truck commercials, the music quickly turns to some awesome action-sequence electric guitar that sounds like it came straight out of an '80s series like “Knight Rider” or “Magnum P.I.”
We get a tantalizing close-up of the Duramax badge on the front door, highlighting its 197-hp, 369-lb-ft engine while the SUV is driving at a decent clip over dirt trails, and -- wait for it -- the obligatory slow-mo jump shot with the Trailblazer getting some air. Do you still think there's room for a mid-priced, off-road worthy SUV in Chevy's lineup? We do. In the meantime, enjoy this forbidden fruit commercial from the Asian tropics.
