2018 Volkswagen Atlas To Receive R-Line Trim

VW’s Mainstream SUV Play Gets New Trim Option

Jan 5, 2017
After a decade of playing at the low and high ends of the SUV market with the C-segment Tiguan and premium-priced Touareg, Volkswagen finally has a model aimed at the heart of the market in the Atlas three-row large crossover. Initially announced in SE and SEL trims, VW is now adding the R-Line package, which can be added to both trim levels. Included in the R-Line package are 20-inch alloy wheels, R-Line badging, unique front and rear bumpers, a gloss-black rear diffuser, and side skirts. The R-Line logo also displays at startup on the center display and adorns the bottom of the steering wheel. Also included in the package are stainless steel pedal covers.
The R-Line will share its two available engines, a 235hp 2.0L I-4 turbo and 276hp 3.6L VR6 with the standard Atlas. All-wheel-drive models are powered exclusively by the VR6. Both are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Atlas will be in showrooms in spring 2017, with availability of the R-Line models following launch. Pricing will be announced closer to availability. The Atlas is built at VW’s Chattanooga, Tennessee, plant, primarily for the North American market, with limited export to Russia and other overseas markets.
