Arnold Schwarzenegger Picks Up Electric G-Wagen In Austria

Conversion Has 482 hp, 0-60 in Less Than 6 Seconds

Jan 23, 2017
Befitting his tough-guy image and Austrian heritage, former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently took delivery of an electrified Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. The conversion was done by Austrian EV engineering company Kreisel. The G-Wagen’s original six-cylinder diesel was replaced with electric motors, and the fuel tank was replaced with batteries. The electrified G-Wagen is capable of a range of 186 miles, a 0-60 time of less than 5.6 seconds, and a top speed of 114 mph. A fast-charging system allows the vehicle to get an 80 percent charge in 25 minutes. The batteries have an 80 kWh capacity.
The vehicle is currently a prototype, which Schwarzenegger will have shipped to California for additional real-world testing, which the company will use for further research and development. The conversion inside and out is done to a high standard of finish, with OE-style gauges, replacing the tachometer with a power usage meter, indicating the amount of power being used or regenerated. One of the hallmarks of the G-Wagen is its legendary off-road capability, and Kreisel claims none of the SUV’s trail-worthiness has been compromised in the conversion. Among some of Kreisel's other projects include a longer-range Volkswagen eGolf, an electrified Skoda Yeti SUV, a fully electric Porsche Panamera sedan, and an electric VW Caddy compact van.
