Jeep Renegade Desert Hawk Headed to U.K. Showrooms

Limited Edition Combines Trailhawk Hardware With Unique Styling

Feb 23, 2017
Arriving in U.K. showrooms today, the 2017 Jeep Renegade Desert Hawk will provide customers in Old Blighty some exclusive features to go along with the model’s off-road–centric Trailhawk hardware. The Desert Hawk looks very similar to the model launched here recently, with changes limited to region-specific regulations and the U.K. model's turbodiesel powertrain.

Jeep launched the Renegade Desert Hawk by enlisting the services of British sandboarder Alex Bird. Towed by a Renegade through the Braunton Burrows sand dunes, Bird executed a series of jumps, stunts, and rail grinds at speeds of up to 40 mph. The whole shebang can be seen in Jeep’s promotional video, embedded below.
The U.K.-only Desert Hawk takes its foundation from the similar Trailhawk, using that model’s Jeep Active Drive Low all-wheel-drive system, Selec-Terrain, skid plates, and impressive ground clearance and articulation. The limited edition is available in three colors: Alpine White, Anvil Black, or Desert Hawk–exclusive Mojave Sand. Each gets a unique hood decal that gives homage to the Fins and Things off-road trail in Moab, as well as bodyside decals and low-gloss black-painted wheels.

The Desert Hawk’s standard powertrain is a not-for-U.S. 2.0L MultiJet turbodiesel I-4 that makes 170 hp. Mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, Jeep’s U.K. division rates this combo to tow 1,500 kg, or more than 3,300 pounds. Jeep will build 100 Desert Hawk versions of the Renegade, each priced at £28,995 including the U.K.’s value-added tax, or $36,371 at current exchange rates
