GM Offering Unlimited OnStar 4G LTE Data for $20 Month

Plan Available to Existing Subscribers with 4G-Equipped Vehicles

Mar 10, 2017
General Motors, starting with its bread-and-butter Chevrolet brand, will roll out unlimited OnStar 4G LTE data plans for $20 a month, starting March 3. The best news for those that have purchased Chevrolet vehicles equipped with OnStar 4G LTE capability built-in, is that existing owners can take advantage of the new plans by pushing the OnStar button on their vehicle, talking to an advisor to sign up for the new plan, or change their user settings on OnStar.com. All existing 4G LTE subscribers will receive information on how to upgrade to the unlimited plan. The only data plans offered moving forward will be the basic 1 GB and monthly unlimited plans.
This is a huge cost savings over the previous plans, which were $10 for 1 GB of data a month, $20 for 4 GB of data, $40 for 10 GB of data. Before that, prices were $20 for 1 GB, $80 for 10 GB, and $150 for 20 GB of data over 12 months.
As with mobile carriers, the term “unlimited” does come with some caveats. Although users will not be cut off after a certain threshold, data throttling may occur after more than 20 GB is used for a month. OnStar 4G LTE data services are provided by AT&T.
